Can I order just a new story and reuse my existing base?
As long as it's the same canvas style, absolutely! We know that as life progresses, so do the stories you'd like to feature in your home. Just order a "Canvas Only" option from the Components & Accessories page. When you receive it, just swap it from your earlier story.
Can I upgrade the base for the story I already have?
Yes, this is no problem. We have a college student customer who bought her story Halo Grande with a wood base with the intention of upgrading it to a concrete base when she's graduated (and no longer paying tuition). You can find individual bases on the Components & Accessories page.
I see what appears to be light oil stains on the shipping box. What is that?
We use a food grade Danish Oil to finish and bring out the beauty of the natural wood grain of our wood bases. As this is applied liberally to enrich the wood, some of it may 'wick' onto the paper cardboard during shipping.
Why am I getting soot on my story canvas?
This is definitely NOT a good look for your story! Even though our 100% soy wax candles use premium ingredients to prevent this, as with any flame, soot can appear if it is not burning efficiently. Following several tips can normally help quickly resolve this.
First, check the level of wax in the candle jar. If it is less than 1/4" from the bottom, it is time to replace it.
Secondly, make sure your environment is free from drafts and not near an open window or fan. The uneven supply of air will prevent candles from burning efficiently.
How can I clean my story canvas?
If you need to clean your story canvas from soot or any other debris, gently rub affected areas with a damp white magic eraser sponge with a bit of dish detergent.
Why is my story canvas flickering?
Some flickering will be normal for any candle but if it is excessive, it could be due to several reasons.
A common reason is using your afterglohe in a drafty environment. A draft — even a slight one — will make the flame dance instead of being stable.
Another reason could be that it is time to replace the candle jar. If the flame is too far down within the candle jar, the flame will struggle to pull air down into the jar. Replacing the candle when the wax level is approaching 1/4", will also help renew your flame to be stronger and more consistent.
Where is afterglohe crafted?
afterglohe is proudly handmade by husband-and-wife team Danny & Maria in West Michigan. We strive to source local whenever possible and have many great supply partners just miles from us. All of the story canvases, wood & concrete bases are made by hand in our workshop. The candles are hand-poured from a small local source just miles away and our wood comes from local mills right in our hometown. We like it this way! It is great having first-name relationships with our key vendors and to pick-up supplies and have a cup of coffee together at the same time.
Are you selling to countries other than the US?
At this time, we are only shipping to US locations. Please let us know if you think we should add your country to the list of first international locations.
