Frequently Asked Questions

Every afterglohe centerpiece begins with a story—yours. From the way you upload and shape your photos to the bases, candles, and materials that complete the experience, we want every step to feel effortless and inspired. Below, you’ll find clear answers to the most common questions as you create a keepsake meant to glow with memory for years to come.

Can I order just a new story and reuse my existing base?

As long as it is the same canvas style, absolutely! Just design a new canvas and skip past Steps 2 & 3 for the base and the 'glohe'. When you receive it, just swap it for your other story.

Can I upgrade the base for the story I already have?

Yes, this is no problem. We have a (college student) customer who bought her story canvas with a wood base with the intention of upgrading it to a concrete base when she has graduated and making some money - rather than paying for tuition. So yes, this is always a possibility!

I see what appears to be light oil stains on the shipping box. What is that?

We use a food grade Danish Oil to finish and bring out the beauty of the natural wood grain of our wood bases. As this is applied liberally to enrich the wood, some of it may 'wick' onto the paper cardboard during shipping.

Why am I getting soot on my story canvas?

This is definitely NOT a good look for your story! A couple of simple tips can most likely help this in quick fashion. Soot is an indicator of the flame not burning efficiently. This is most likely due to an uneven supply of oxygen due to a drafty environment. Making sure the environment is free from drafts by making sure your afterglohe is not placed near an open window or fan should help stop any soot from being created.

How can I clean my story canvas?

If you need to clean your story canvas from soot or any other debris, gently rub affected areas with a damp white magic eraser sponge with a bit of dish detergent.

Why is my story canvas flickering?

This could be due to several reasons. A common reason is using your afterglohe in a drafty environment. A draft - even a slight one - will make the flame dance instead of being stable.

Another reason could be that it is time to replace the candle jar. If the flame is too far down within the candle jar, the flame must try to pull the oxygen down into the jar. Replacing the candle when the wax level is at 1/2", will also help renew your flame to a stronger and more consistent flame.

Where is afterglohe manufactured?

afterglohe is proudly located in West Michigan where we strive to source local whenever possible. We have many great partners that supply us just miles from our location. All of the story canvases, wood & concrete bases are made at our location. The candles are hand-poured from a source just miles away from us and our wood comes from local mills right in our hometown. We like it this way! It is great having first-name relationships with our key vendors and to pick-up an order and have a cup of coffee together at the same time.

Are you selling to countries other than the US?

At this time, we are only shipping to US locations. Please let us know if you think we should add your country to the list of first international locations.
